Synopsis
‘Alive Inside’ follows social worker Dan Cohen, founder of the nonprofit organization Music & Memory, as he fights against a broken health-care system to demonstrate music’s ability to combat memory loss and restore a deep sense of self to those suffering from it. Rossato-Bennett visits family members who have witnessed the miraculous effects of personalized music on their loved ones, and offers illuminating interviews with experts including renowned neurologist and best-selling author Oliver Sacks (‘Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain’) and musician Bobby McFerrin (‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy’).

About the Director
Michael Rossato-Bennett studied film at Temple University and studied lighting with the late Academy Award-winning cinematographer Vilmos Zigmond. In 1982, Rossato-Bennett shot ‘Street Dance’, a one-hour documentary on the emerging breakdance and tick-tism scene in Cincinnati. In 1984, he co-wrote and directed ‘Victory House’, an award-winning feature that follows the fates of three young men returning to small-town Ohio after World War II. In 1989, he founded a photo studio in Cincinnati. He specialised in travel photography and shot for ‘National Geographic’, ‘Smithsonian’, ‘Islands Magazine’, ‘Travel and Leisure’ and ‘British Heritage’, among others. In 2009, he began working in film again, starting Ximotion Media, a company dedicated to producing films for non-profits. In 2009, he made short documentaries for The Mozart Academy, The Tibetan Buddhist Resource Center and Music & Memory. Currently. Ximotion is in production on four documentaries.
